Gonzaga has its way with IUPUI

Nov 15, 2010 - 7:59 AM Spokane, WA (Sports Network) - Steven Gray totaled 17 points and eight rebounds, as 12th-ranked Gonzaga rolled to an 86-56 victory over IUPUI in the regional round of the CBE Classic.

Gray added eight assists and four steals for the Bulldogs (2-0), who opened their season with a resounding 117-72 victory over Southern on Friday.

Kelly Olynyk scored 13 points for Gonzaga, while Robert Sacre and Sam Dower both finished with 11.

Alex Young had 16 points to pace the Jaguars (0-1), who won 25 games last season, falling one shy of tying the school record, and posted their first postseason game at the Division I level with an opening-round win over Hofstra in the College Basketball Invitational.

"That's a really good basketball team," IUPUI head coach Ron Hunter said. "They can beat you in a lot of different ways. I think we were kind of shell- shocked at first and really didn't feel any comfort until the second half. That's what they do and you can't really replicate that in practice."

Gonzaga jumped out to a 16-2 edge in the first nine minutes of the game and the lead grew to 32-11 on consecutive buckets by Olynyk. The Bulldogs led 37-18 at the break and continued to distance themselves in the second half.
