Jayhawks cruise to school-record 63rd consecutive home win

Nov 24, 2010 - 4:03 AM Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Thomas Robinson finished with 15 points and Marcus Morris added 12 points as sixth-ranked Kansas easily handled Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 82-41, at Allen Fieldhouse.

Travis Releford and Mario Little both supplied 11 points and Markieff Morris contributed nine points and 10 rebounds for the Jayhawks, who recorded their school-record 63rd straight home victory.

"We do not talk about that much, but it is nice to have," said Kansas head coach Bill Self when discussing the 63-game streak. "I am not going to down- play it. It was nice that the fans recognized the guys at the end, but that should not be something that is on our mind every time we play at home."

"We just need to go play. There is no extra pressure having the streak here."

Demond Watt, Justin Reynolds and Jaamon Echols each finished with seven points for the Islanders (1-4), who have lost four straight.

Horace Bond added six points and eight rebounds in defeat.

After the teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the first the Jayhawks slowly started to pull away.

"I thought the key to the game was Kansas defensively, said A&M head coach Perry Clark. "I though they did a really good job of taking us out of what we wanted to do."

"They turned our plays basically into one-on-one endeavor and we're not good enough to beat them one-on-one. I don't know too many teams like that."

Robinson used a fast break dunk at 9:03 to put the game at 19-8 and cap a 15-4 burst. Kansas added a Tyshawn Taylor jumper just under the four minute marker to extend the lead to 33-13.

The Jayhawks held a 42-17 margin heading into the intermission, after Watt hit a layup.

The Islanders opened the second half with two straight baskets to put the game at 42-22. However, a Brady Morningstar jumper with just over three minutes played kick-started a 18-0 run that lasted over the next five-plus minutes for Kansas.

A Morris layup pushed the Jayhawks' lead to 38, at 73-35, with just over five minutes remaining and from there the home team emptied their bench for the remainder.
