Hoyas bounce back with win over Appalachian State

Dec 12, 2010 - 7:31 PM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Jason Clark scored 15 points to help ninth-ranked Georgetown beat Appalachian State, 89-60, at the Verizon Center.

Austin Freeman totaled 14 points for the Hoyas (9-1), who rebounded from Thursday's loss at Temple. Hollis Thompson and Nate Lubick both added 11 points in the win.

Jeremi Booth and Donald Sims scored 14 points apiece for the Mountaineers (3-4), who have lost four of their last five games.

Georgetown raced out to a 16-5 lead and a Thompson three-pointer made it 30-13 with just under 7 1/2 minutes remaining in the opening frame. Appalachian State rallied to trim its deficit to single digits at halftime (41-32), but the Hoyas scored the first seven points of the second half to increase their advantage to 16.

A Chris Wright layup put Georgetown up 64-41 and the margin never dipped below 19 points the rest of the way.

Game Notes

Wright finished with six points and 12 assists...Sims recorded a game-high six steals...Georgetown shot 72.4 percent from the field in the second half and 60.0 percent for the game...This game marked the first-ever meeting between Appalachian State and Georgetown on the hardwood.
