Kansas stays perfect with rout of UMKC

Jan 6, 2011 - 4:37 AM Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Josh Selby scored 16 points and Tyshawn Taylor added 15, as third-ranked Kansas posted a 99-52 victory over UMKC at Allen Fieldhouse.

Selby coupled his scoring output with seven assists, four rebounds and four steals.

Elijah Johnson and Travis Releford both contributed 13 points for the Jayhawks (14-0), who extended the nation's longest home court winning streak to 68 games.

"We did some good things," said Kansas head coach Bill Self. "We had some individuals play well. We shared the ball."

Jay Couisnard and Bakari Lewis led the Kangaroos (8-7) with 16 points apiece.

Kansas opened the game on a 15-0 run and never looked back. It took UMKC nearly six minutes to register its first point on a Couisnard free throw.

"Against a team like this, they are going to try and knock you out of the game right from the beginning, and that's basically what they did," said UMKC head coach Matt Brown. "I was disappointed with our inability to take care of the basketball, but a lot of that had to do with Kansas' pressure."

The Jayhawks shot a sizzling 59.4 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and led 52-24 at halftime. Kansas' lead reached as many as 52 late in regulation.
