Jones, Baylor rout South Carolina State

Nov 23, 2011 - 6:19 AM Waco, TX (Sports Network) - Anthony Jones totaled 21 points and five steals to help No. 9 Baylor to a 70-50 win over South Carolina State.

Pierre Jackson contributed 11 points while Quincy Acy added nine points and eight rebounds for the Bears (4-0), who have won all their games by double digits.

Jones' slam nine minutes into the game gave the Bears their first double-digit lead of the game, 18-8.

"We needed a spark," said Jones. "We came out and weren't hitting shots and looking sluggish, and I just had to be the spark for the team."

South Carolina State kept the contest close over the next several minutes and tied it twice, but Baylor scored the final five points of the half and A.J. Walton's tip shot gave the team a 33-28 lead at the break.

Baylor came out of the locker room on fire with Jones hitting consecutive three- pointers and Brady Heslip following with back-to-back three-pointers before Quincy Miller buried a jumper for a 47-28 lead just over four minutes in.

A three-pointer from Jackson made it a 52-30 game near the midway mark of the second half and Baylor was able to hold South Carolina State at arm's length from there.
