Kentucky rolls over Radford

Nov 24, 2011 - 3:45 AM Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Terrence Jones led a balanced attack with 17 points and eight rebounds, as the second-ranked Kentucky Wildcats destroyed the Radford Highlanders, 88-40.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 15 points and nine boards for the Wildcats (5-0), who shot 50 percent from the field. Marquis Teague donated 13 points and five assists.

Anthony Davis and Doron Lamb tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Kentucky, which went 21-of-24 from the foul line.

"We did better than the game before," Jones said. "We are still improving. We showed a better effort on the things coach challenged us on."

Johnathan Edwards ended with 10 points and eight rebounds for the Highlanders (3-4), who have lost three in a row.

Kentucky started the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back. Radford's first field goal of the game came with 10:27 to play in the first half.

The Wildcats then used an 8-0 flurry to build a 22-2 lead with 8:35 to go. Kentucky's margin grew to 45-14 at the break.

The home team cruised to victory in the second half.

"The fans here are very enthusiastic," Edwards said. "When you grow up as a kid, you see Kentucky and this is a different atmosphere. We have played in big arenas, but this place is different. The fans are passionate."

Game Notes

Wednesday's game was the first-ever meeting between these two programs on the hardwood...Radford shot 26.2 percent from the floor and went 2-of-25 from three-point range...The Wildcats extended their home winning streak to 36 games, including the 2009 NIT game at Memorial Coliseum and the last 35 games at Rupp Arena...UK is a perfect 35-0 under Coach John Calipari at Rupp Arena, the longest win streak in venue history.
