Turner helps Aggies down Islanders

Nov 27, 2011 - 1:01 AM College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Elston Turner had 14 points, Ray Turner scored 13 with eight rebounds and No. 25 Texas A&M posted a 56-43 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Jordan Green finished with 10 points, six assists and four boards for the Aggies (4-1), who built a 30-16 halftime lead and withstood a second-half run by Saturday's opponent.

Myron Dempsey posted 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Islanders (1-3), who were held to 28 percent shooting from the floor.

The Aggies went up by 20 when Kourtney Roberson completed a three-point play to make it 45-25 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the second half.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, though, scored 14 straight points before a Ray Turner layup halted the Texas A&M dry spell with 7:15 left. He then sank a free throw and hit another bucket down low to push the Aggies' lead back to double digits.

"We're having a hard time being consistent with our effort and consistent offensively with some efficiency, decision making," said Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy.

The Aggies made 44 percent of their shots...Texas A&M lead the all-time series, 2-1...No other player scored more than seven points for the Islanders.
