No. 3 Kentucky handles Samford
Dec 21, 2011 - 3:17 AMVideo
Darius Miller recorded 17 points and five assists, and Marquis Teague finished with 14 points, five assists and four boards for Kentucky (10-1), which has won 41 games in a row at Rupp Arena.
"He's been good," Kentucky head coach John Calipari said of Lamb. "Let me just tell you, the extra time that he's spending on that basketball court before practice, after practice, you're all seeing the benefit of it."
Tyler Hood and Drew Windler each had 11 points for the Bulldogs (3-7), who had their two-game winning streak snapped.
Sophomore Kentucky forward Terrence Jones missed his first collegiate game after dislocating his pinky against Chattanooga on Saturday. But the Wildcats did just fine without him, racing out to an 11-0 lead three minutes in after hitting on their first five shots.
"Good coaching, superior talent and our team being a little nervous to start the game," Samford head coach Jimmy Tillette said of his team's slow start. "I thought we got it right a little bit after that. We were a little starry eyed, stuck in mud with a Rupp Arena kind of aura."
Kentucky upped its lead to 40-20 after Anthony Davis stuffed one through with just under five minutes to go in the first half.
The Wildcats took a 45-22 lead into the locker room. Lamb paced Kentucky with 16 first-half points and Samford was held to just 1-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.
The 30-point barrier was breached when Lamb hit a jumper for a 59-29 game with about 14 minutes to play, and Kentucky cruised from there.
