South Florida rallies late to upend Seton Hall

Jan 14, 2012 - 5:10 AM Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Toarlyn Fitzpatrick converted a go-ahead three- point play in the final minute, and the South Florida Bulls held on to beat No. 24 Seton Hall, 56-55, thanks to Jordan Theodore's missed free throw.

The Bulls (10-8, 3-2 Big East) trailed 52-42 with six minutes remaining before rattling off 14 of the next 15 points, going ahead on Fitzpatrick's hoop and free throw with 56 seconds on the clock.

Patrik Auda's tip-in ended the field goal drought for the Pirates (15-3, 4-2), who got the ball back when Jawanza Poland missed the front end of a 1-and-1.

Theodore was fouled with 3.8 seconds left for his own 1-and-1 opportunity and missed the ensuing free throw. Fitzpatrick grabbed the rebound to snap the Pirates' four-game win streak and secure South Florida's third win in four games.

Theodore shot just 5-of-13 from the floor but finished with a game-high 16 points.

Ron Anderson Jr. paced South Florida with 14 points, scoring six on the game- altering 14-1 run.

"Anderson was just a beast tonight," South Florida head coach Stan Heath said. "He did all the little things."

A close first half ended with Poland nailing a three-pointer, appropriately tying the game at 27-all heading to the break.

Theodore and Haralds Karlis each hit from behind the arc during an 8-0 run that put Seton Hall on top, 41-34, with 13 1/2 minutes remaining.

The Pirates held their biggest lead at 52-42 on Aaron Cosby's trey with just over six minutes left, but that was their last field goal before the final minute.

Seton Hall is ranked for the first since the 2000-01 season...The Bulls improved to 9-1 at home...Seton Hall still leads the all-time series, 8-2.
