Baylor snaps skid in win over Oklahoma

Jan 25, 2012 - 5:27 AM Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Perry Jones III had 21 points and 12 rebounds, as No. 6 Baylor downed Oklahoma 77-65 on Tuesday.

The Bears (18-2, 5-2 Big 12) had dropped two straight following a 17-0 start, but got 16 points from Pierre Jackson, 13 from Quincy Acy and 11 from Anthony Jones in the bounceback win.

"I thought the last two days in practice the upperclassmen really set the tone, getting us more focused to try to defend better and try rebound a little better," said Baylor coach Scott Drew. "I think we were able to do that tonight."

Steven Pledger scored 17 to pace the Sooners (12-7, 2-5), who were coming off Saturday's overtime setback at Texas A&M. Romero Osby added 16 and 11 boards and Andrew Fitzgerald had 13 points.

Baylor, which fell at Kansas last Monday before Saturday's one-point loss to Missouri, led by 13 with 14 minutes to play before Oklahoma made a charge.

An 11-2 Sooners run cut the deficit to four, as Pledger poured in five and Osby had four during the burst to make it 56-52 with 10 minutes left. They pulled within two, 62-60, on a Cameron Clark jumper but Baylor pulled away down the stretch.

The Bears responded to Clark's bucket with a 9-2 run, as Jones, Jackson and Acy all found the bottom of the net to make it 71-62 with two minutes remaining. Pledger then hit a deep trey on the other end, but Acy answered with a layup before Brady Heslip and Jones both hit a pair of free throws to seal the final result.

"We were working for the most of the night from a little bit if a deficit," said Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger. "We made two or three runs but Baylor did a good job of responding to those runs. I like what our guys are doing from a standpoint of competing and wanting to get after it, yet we have to figure out ways to get some stops, especially in the second half there."

Baylor had taken a 35-30 advantage into the break and held a 39-38 lead early in the second before reeling off a 15-3 run to establish a necessary double- digit cushion. Jones, Acy, Heslip and Jackson -- four of the Bears' top-five scorers on the season -- all contributed during the essential stretch.

Oklahoma leads the all-time series, 37-9...Baylor's Quincy Miller, who ranked second on the team at 12.9 points per game entering Tuesday, had five points on 2-of-6 shooting.
