No. 15 Florida State holds off Miami

Feb 12, 2012 - 12:07 AM Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Bernard James scored 18 points, pulled down six rebounds and blocked four shots, helping the 15th-ranked Florida State Seminoles hold off the Miami-Florida Hurricanes, 64-59.

Michael Snaer and Ian Miller added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Seminoles (17-7, 8-2 ACC), who bounced back from a 64-60 loss at Boston College on Wednesday night.

Florida State is 8-2 in conference play for the first time since the 1992-93 season when the Seminoles won 11 of their first 13 games of the season and finished 12-4 and in second place in the ACC standings.

"This was a tremendous challenge for us. We had a lot of heroes but more than anything else, we have got to prepare ourselves for this type of game every night," Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton said.

Kenny Kadji ended with 14 points and six boards for the Hurricanes (15-8, 6-4), who had a five-game winning streak snapped. Durand Scott donated 12 points.

Down by eight, 59-51, with two minutes to play, the Hurricanes had one last run in them. Shane Larkin's free throw and Scott's slam around a Jeff Peterson turnover cut the gap to 59-54.

After Miller went 1-of-2 from the foul line, Kadji recorded a three-point play to make it a 60-57 contest with 31.8 seconds remaining.

But the Seminoles went 4-of-6 from the charity stripe in the final seconds to seal the victory.

"That was a pretty even game in the first half. In the second half they had a four point lead and it stayed that way until they bumped it up to 7," Miami head coach Jim Larranaga said. "They were going inside regularly and we were not able to prevent those baskets right near the hoop, either first shot or the offensive rebound."

Neither team led by more than five in a tight first half that saw Florida State take a 28-26 edge into the locker room.

Ahead by two, 42-40, with 10 1/2 minutes to play, the Seminoles went on an 8-0 run to create some distance. Miller made two three-pointers during the burst to make it a 50-40 game.

FSU owns a 39-28 lead in the all-time series with Miami, and the 'Noles have won 11 of the last 12 meetings...Florida State shot 46 percent from the field, while the Hurricanes shot 39.3 percent from the floor.
