Clark lifts No. 12 Georgetown over St. John's

Feb 12, 2012 - 9:27 PM Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - Jason Clark struggled mightily from the floor, but provided two key baskets late, lifting No. 12 Georgetown to a 71-61 wire-to-wire win against St. John's.

Clark netted 11 points on just 1-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc while Nate Lubick had seven points, eight rebounds, five assists and four blocks for the Hoyas (19-5, 9-4 Big East), who were coming off Wednesday's overtime loss at second-ranked Syracuse.

The freshman duo of D'Angelo Harrison and Moe Harkless kept the Red Storm (10-15, 4-9) in the contest. Harrison nailed five three-pointers en route to 24 points while Harkless poured in 20 to go with eight boards. St. John's has lost three consecutive games and eight of its last 10.

Harkless kept the Red Storm within shouting in the second half by continually getting to the free throw line. He made seven of his eight attempts in the stanza.

Harrison's trey made it a 56-53 game with 4:20 to play in the contest, but Clark netted six straight points to give Georgetown its largest lead up to this point, 62-53.

Clark, who was 0-for-5 from beyond the arc prior, nailed a trey to start the spurt. After a huge offensive rebound by Lubick on Georgetown's next possession, Otto Porter found a cutting Clark for a three-point play.

Harrison hit another trey at the other end, but Markel Starks answered with a three-pointer to essentially put the game away with 2:27 left.

The Hoyas shot a blistering 60.9 percent in the second half.

While Georgetown was in the midst of a 5:31 field-goal drought, Harrison's three-pointer capped a 7-1 flurry to pull the visitors within 15-14 with 7:34 remaining in the first half.

But the Hoyas reeled off the next six points as Henry Sims' elbow jumper gave the hosts a 21-14 lead with 5:28 left in the stanza.

The Hoyas shot just 38.5 percent and were 3-of-13 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes, but were aided by seven offensive rebounds as they took a 31-26 lead into the locker room.
