Cadot powers TCU past No. 18 New Mexico

Feb 26, 2012 - 6:44 AM Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - J.R. Cadot's double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds powered TCU to an 83-64 win over 18th-ranked New Mexico on Saturday.

Cadot was one of six TCU players to reach double-digits in scoring.

Hank Thorns provided 14 points and nine assists for the Horned Frogs (17-11, 7-5 MWC), who pushed their home winning streak to eight games.

Garlon Green added 13 points, Craig Williams 12, Amric Fields 11 and Kyan Anderson 10.

"It was without question the best defensive effort we've put in all year," said Horned Frogs head coach Jim Christian. "We deflected so many passes and we guarded the ball better than we guarded it all year. They are one of the best teams in the country for a reason. You have to play tough and smart to beat a great team like New Mexico and I thought we did that for forty minutes tonight."

TCU posted its first victory over the Lobos since January 15, 2008, snapping an eight-game losing streak in the series.

A.J. Hardeman had 15 points to pace New Mexico (22-6, 8-4), which suffered its second straight loss to fall into a tie with UNLV and San Diego State for first place in the Mountain West standings.

TCU jumped out to a 13-4 lead, but New Mexico rallied to go up 19-18 on a Hugh Greenwood free throw. It remained a tight contest as the clubs were deadlocked at intermission, 38-38.

The game featured eight ties, the last at 48-48 with 13:48 to play in the second half. TCU then took control with a 16-3 surge over the next six-plus minutes. Cadot sank two foul shots to put the Horned Frogs up 64-51, and the Lobos trailed by at least eight the rest of the way.

"This second half was one of the poorest ones we played in a really long time," said New Mexico head coach Steve Alford.
