Eastern Illinois names Jay Spoonhour head coach
Apr 6, 2012 - 7:46 PM Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Eastern Illinois has named Jay Spoonhour as its new men's head basketball coach.Spoonhour is the 14th head coach in the program's history and replaces Mike Miller, whose contract was not renewed after a 12-17 season.
One of five finalists to interview for the position, Spoonhour has been an assistant at Saint Louis, Valparaiso, UNLV, Missouri and Texas-San Antonio. He served as the interim head coach at UNLV during the final month of the 2003-04 season.
Spoonhour has been a head coach at the junior college level and guided Wabash Valley College to the 2001 NJCAA National Championship.
