Balanced attack helps No. 19 Wisconsin pound Northwestern
Feb 21, 2013 - 6:31 AM Evanston, IL (Sports Network) - Ben Brust and Jared Berggren each had 12 points and eight rebounds to help No. 19 Wisconsin to a 69-41 win over Northwestern on Wednesday.Sam Dekker scored 10 points while Traevon Jackson added eight points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Badgers (19-8, 10-4 Big Ten), who have won five of their last six games.
Reggie Hearn scored 13 points for the Wildcats (13-14, 4-10), who have dropped their past four games.
"We're having a hard time putting the ball in the basket, and our rebounding has been anemic," Northwestern head coach Bill Carmody said.
The Badgers led this game from start to finish as the team posted the first nine points before Northwestern finally got on the board on a 3-pointer from Hearn 5 1/2 minutes in.
Another 8-0 run saw Wisconsin push its edge further and, thanks to just 4- for-20 shooting from Northwestern, the team took a 28-12 lead into the break.
A Tre Demps 3-pointer a little over two minutes in cut Northwestern's deficit to 31-19, but the Badgers answered with an 8-2 run and held a 39-21 lead with 13 minutes to play.
Wisconsin's lead never dipped below 16 points the rest of the way.
"I thought we kept making them work for good looks and when you play Northwestern that's what you have to do to have a chance [of winning]," Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan said.
