Hipsher to take over at UT-Pan American
Apr 5, 2013 - 12:11 AM Edinburg, TX (Sports Network) - Texas-Pan American announced Thursday that Dan Hipsher will become the new head coach of the university's men's basketball program.Hipsher has previously been a Division I head coach at both Stetson and Akron, having served nine seasons at the latter from 1995-2004. He most recently worked as the associate head coach at Alabama for the past four seasons.
The 58-year-old compiled a 112-137 record with the Zips and went 29-27 over two seasons at Stetson from 1993-95. Hipsher was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year as well after guiding Akron to a 17-10 mark during the 1997-98 campaign.
"Coach Hipsher has been in nine NCAA Tournaments and five NIT's. As a head coach, he rebuilt programs at Stetson University and the University of Akron," said UTPA president Dr. Robert S. Nelsen. "As Pan Am moves into the WAC, he is the perfect leader who will take our program and our Broncs to a new, higher level. He is a coach's coach -- someone who knows basketball and coaching inside out. I can hardly wait for next season."
Hipsher takes over for Ryan Marks, whose contract was not renewed in March following a 39-89 tenure with the Broncos over four seasons.
