Oregon tops Georgetown in South Korea
Nov 9, 2013 - 5:30 AM Seoul, South Korea (SportsNetwork.com) - Joseph Young went 12-of-12 from the foul line and finished with 24 points as the 19th-ranked Oregon Ducks beat the Georgetown Hoyas by an 82-75 margin in the Armed Forces Classic at Camp Humphreys in South Korea.Young transferred to Oregon from Houston after averaging 18.0 points last season.
Jason Calliste and Mike Moser tallied 16 and 15 points, respectively, for the Ducks (1-0), who went 28-9 and lost to Louisville in the Sweet 16 last season.
Oregon was without sophomores Dominic Artis and Ben Carter, who were both suspended indefinitely Tuesday for violating NCAA rules against selling team-issued apparel.
Joshua Smith ended with 25 points for the Hoyas (0-1), who went 25-7 and lost to Florida Gulf Coast in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Markel Starks and Jabril Trawick donated 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Trailing 69-62 with four minutes to play, Georgetown got five straight points from Smith. His layup and three-point play got the Hoyas within two.
Young made two free throws to give the Ducks a 71-67 margin. D'Vauntes Smith- Rivera went 1-of-2 from the charity stripe for Georgetown, but Richard Amardi put down a dunk at the other end.
Trawick went 1-of-2 from the line to get the Hoyas within four, 73-69, with 1:19 remaining. But the Ducks went 9-of-10 from the charity stripe down the stretch.
Oregon led by as many as 11 in the first half and took a 37-34 lead into the locker room.
Georgetown started the second half on an 8-2 spurt. Smith-Rivera's jumper gave the Hoyas a 42-39 edge with 17:31 to play.
The Ducks responded with a 13-2 run and led the rest of the way.
