Final
Nebraska downs No. 9 Wisconsin
Mar 10, 2014 - 3:52 AM Lincoln, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Terran Petteway scored 26 points with 10 rebounds to help Nebraska take a 77-68 victory over No. 9 Wisconsin in the regular-season finale for both teams.Shavon Shields also had 26 points and Walter Pitchford added 15 points and five boards for the Cornhuskers (19-11, 11-7 Big Ten), who have won their last three games and finished fourth in the conference.
Nebraska coach Tim Miles was asked whether or not he thinks his team will make the NCAA Tournament.
"I think it's a great win. I don't think they've lost to anybody like us," he said. "I think we've put together a pretty impressive run. I think anybody that would be on the committee and watched that game would think, 'Hey, they're pretty good.'"
Frank Kaminsky scored 14 points with eight rebounds and Nigel Hayes added 12 points for the Badgers (26-5, 12-6), who had an eight-game winning streak stopped and took second place in the conference.
Nebraska scored 10 of the first 13 points of the game but Wisconsin slowly chipped away at its deficit and held a 33-29 lead after a Sam Dekker dunk with just over a minute to play in the first half.
After Shields and Benny Parker made buckets to tie the game, Kaminsky hit the final basket of the half to give the Badgers a 35-33 lead at the break.
Wisconsin led by six early in the second half and still held a four-point lead after Josh Gasser hit two from the line with just over nine minutes to play.
Shields, though, followed that with two free throws, Ray Gallegos hit a 3- pointer and Shields' dunk with seven minutes to play gave Nebraska a 55-52 lead.
A dunk from Hayes with four minutes left kept it a three-point game at 60-57, but Parker hit a jumper, Pitchford followed with a 3 and Petteway capped the run on a layup for a 67-57 lead with just over two minutes left.
Wisconsin got no closer than six points the rest of the way.
"We hit some shots and they regrouped and shut down some things. Then they hit some shots," said Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan. "Playing from behind, we had a couple chances there. We were biting into their lead and we missed a few free throws. The guys kept playing hard, though."
Game Notes
Nebraska hit 52 percent of its shots and grabbed 31 rebounds, while Wisconsin made 42.9 percent of its shots and had 35 boards ... Gasser had 11 points and nine rebounds for Wisconsin ... Nebraska leads the series 6-5.
