Wisconsin-Milwaukee banned from postseason

Apr 10, 2014 - 2:40 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team has been banned from the postseason for the 2014-15 season after the NCAA denied the school's final appeal over low academic scores.

The university announced the ban on Wednesday. It will keep the Panthers out of the Horizon League Tournament or any other postseason tournament next year.

"We are aware that problems did occur in the past, but we have faced them and made changes and are accepting the consequences from the NCAA," Panthers athletic director Amanda Braun said in a statement.

The NCAA issued its penalty for a 908 Academic Performance Rate score, which is below the mandated minimum.

The Panthers made an unexpected run to win the conference tournament and then lost to No. 2 seed Villanova in their NCAA Tournament opener.
