No. 13 Gonzaga rips SJU

Nov 20, 2014 - 6:35 AM Spokane, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Gary Bell, Jr. led five players in double figures with 18 points as No. 13 Gonzaga decimated Saint Joseph's by a 94-42 count on Wednesday.

Josh Perkins picked up 13 points, while Domantas Sabonis registered 10 points with 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-0), who will next face St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday in the next round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Byron Wesley added 12 points and six assists, with Przemek Karnowski pouring in 11 with eight boards to help fuel the rout.

Aaron Brown posted 14 points for the Hawks (1-2), who have to wait until Saturday to square off against Vermont and erase the memory of the worst loss in program history.

Gonzaga began by scoring 11 of the game's first 13 points. The hosts built an 18-5 edge by hitting each of their first eight shots from the floor, then racked up 31 points before SJU even broached double digits.

The Bulldogs carried a 48-10 edge to the break thanks to 61.3 percent shooting (19-of-31), including 5-of-11 buckets from beyond the arc. Saint Joseph's was ice cold, converting just 3-of-28 field goals.

Wesley's tip in extended the hosts' edge to 67-19 just over 6 1/2 minutes into the second half and the starters began to take seats on the bench.

Despite the reserves playing significant minutes, the Hawks were simply unable to mount much of a charge for respectability.
