Northern Iowa tops Denver on 30 shots

Dec 11, 2014 - 4:07 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Seth Tuttle led four Panthers in double figures with 12 points and No. 23 Northern Iowa stayed unbeaten with a 65-55 win over Denver on Wednesday.

Deon Mitchell and Wes Washpun each scored 11 points and Paul Jesperson added 10 for Northern Iowa (9-0), which shot a blistering 70 percent (21-of-30) from the floor. No one besides Tuttle (4-for-7) missed more than two shots.

Cam Griffin and Nate Engesser netted 15 points apiece for Denver (4-4), which only got three points from its bench.

UNI's reserves totaled 32 points.

The Panthers made their first seven shots, including a pair of Matt Bohannon 3-pointers, and led 19-8 before Nate Buss finally missed a 3 at 11:14 for their first miss. Mitchell then converted a three-point play and hit a jumper and Tuttle scored to extend the spread to 26-11.

Later in the first, Washpun and Tuttle had three-point plays and Jesperson canned a 3 during a 9-0 run that made it 35-13.

Jalen Love beat the buzzer with a 3, but Northern Iowa still led 42-25 at halftime.

Denver never got closer than 10 in the second half.
