No. 10 Kansas dominates Lafayette

Dec 21, 2014 - 2:17 AM Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Kelly Oubre Jr. gave 23 points and 10 rebounds as No. 10 Kansas crushed Lafayette, 96-69, on Saturday.

Frank Mason III had 14 points and nine assists and Wayne Selden Jr. added 12 points and six assists for the Jayhawks (9-1), who have won eight straight since a loss to Kentucky on Nov. 18.

"I'm enjoying the moment with my teammates; we got a big win today," said Oubre. "I just look at it as part of the process, a lot of people said enjoy the process and that's what I am doing."

Seth Hinrichs had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Leopards (7-3), who had a four-game winning streak stopped. Dan Trist gave 12 points in the loss.

Lafayette led early until Cliff Alexander put in a layup for a 9-7 lead that gave Kansas the lead for good.

A 7-0 run from the Jayhawks a bit later staked the team to a 15-point lead before the Leopards went on a small run to get within 10.

Kansas, though, got a pair of 3-pointers from Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk to close the half and take a 45-28 lead into the break.

"We worked so hard to get back in the game and all of a sudden they would go right back up and quickly," said Lafayette head coach Fran O'Hanlon. "I do think there was a point where they were battling against a good team. It was going to be hard to get back in that game."

Lafayette put together a couple of surges in the second half and got within seven after Monty Boykins put in a 3-pointer to cut the gap to 59-52 with just under 12 minutes to play.

However, the Jayhawks came back with the next eight points to put any thoughts of a collapse to rest.
