No. 16 VCU holds off Saint Louis with last-second shot

Jan 24, 2015 - 2:36 AM St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Treveon Graham scored the game-winning basket with 0.9 seconds remaining as No. 16 VCU edged Saint Louis 63-61 on Friday night.

Graham finished with 21 points and six rebounds and Briante Weber scored 15 points for the Rams (16-3, 6-0 A-10), who have won 11 straight games.

Milik Yarbrough had 15 points and six boards and Austin McBroom netted 12 points for the Billikens (9-10, 1-5), who have lost six straight games against ranked opponents.

The Billikens tied the game with 1:37 remaining after Yarbrough netted two free throws and McBroom and Ash Yacoubou each split a pair at the line.

After Yacoubou pulled down Jordan Burgess' miss, McBroom gave Saint Louis the lead with a jumper with 40 seconds on the clock. Burgess didn't miss on the following possession as he put the Rams back in front 61-60 twenty seconds later with a trey.

Yacoubou tied the game with a foul shot with six seconds to play, but Graham ran down the court and gave the Rams the win with under a second to play.

Saint Louis heaved the inbounds pass into the air from its own end, but the ball went out of bounds and the Billikens were off the mark again on their last inbounds pass to end the game.

VCU went ahead after Terry Larrier and Graham hit back-to-back 3-pointers during a 12-0 run that made it a 24-16 game just past the midway point of the first half.

Saint Louis charged back with a 12-2 swing that Davell Roby capped with a layup for a 28-26 lead with 5:34 remaining in the first half.

Graham scored six straight points for the Rams with under two minutes to play, but Yarbrough went in for a layup to make it a 34-34 game at halftime.

The Rams went ahead by six points as Larrier's pair of free throws and Mo Alie Cox's layup made it a 56-50 game with 4:23 to play.

The Rams started 6-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2006-07 season ... Saint Louis last defeated a ranked opponent on March 17, 2013 when it beat #25 VCU in the A-10 Championship game ... Saint Louis shot 43.8 percent from the field compared to VCU's 36.7 percent.
