No. 3 Memphis look to extend home winning streak, host Richmond

Nov 6, 2007 - 3:23 PM Richmond (1-0) at No. 3 Memphis (1-0) 9:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Memphis Tigers have been a very tough team to beat the last two seasons. They are even tougher to top at home.

Third-ranked Memphis will look to extend the nation's longest active home winning streak to 34 games when it hosts Richmond in the second round of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer on Tuesday.

The Tigers, who have won 66 games over the last two seasons en route to consecutive appearances in the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament, have not lost at home since January 2, 2006.

Chris-Douglas Roberts had 28 points and highly-touted freshman Derrick Rose contributed 17 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead the Tigers to a 102-71 victory over Tennessee-Martin on Monday.

The Tigers, who return all five starters from last season's 33-win team, were without their leading rebounder from last season, Joey Dorsey.

The 6-9 senior did not play after spraining his right shoulder during a scrimmage on October 27, having his streak of 94 consecutive games played snapped.

David Gonzalez led Richmond with 15 points and hit the two game-winning free throws with 3.6 seconds to play in the Spiders' 44-42 victory over Maine on Monday.

Richmond went 8-22 last season with four freshmen starters becoming their top four leading scorers.

The winner will play in the semifinals of the tournament at Madison Square Garden on November 15.
