Kansas aims to continue offensive output vs. UMKC

Nov 11, 2007 - 2:17 PM UMKC at No. 4 Kansas (1-0) 8:00 pm EST

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- Even without Brandon Rush, offense does not appear to be a problem for Kansas.

The fourth-ranked Jayhawks will be trying to build on an impressive offensive performance when they host UMKC on Sunday in the Jayhawk Invitational on Sunday.

Rush, who averaged 13.8 points and has led the team in scoring in each of his first two seasons, is likely out until December due to tearing his right ACL in May.

In the Jayhawks' season-opening 107-78 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday, his absence didn't appear to bother his team all that much. Guard Sherron Collins scored 22 points and forward Darnell Jackson added a career-high 21 for Kansas.

When he does return though, Kansas will have four of five starters back from last season's 33-5 team, which reached the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament.

UMKC will likely turn to guard Dane Brumagin, who averaged 9.6 points last season and is the leading returning scorer for the Kangaroos, who are playing their first game of the season under new coach Matt Brown.

Kansas has won all three of its previous matchups with UMKC. Sunday's game is the first in the round-robin tournament that also includes Arizona, Northern Arizona, Washburn and Adams State.
