Goods lives up to his name in Stanford win

Nov 12, 2007 - 1:20 AM PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- Anthony Goods had been bothered by an upset stomach over the last couple days. He had no problem transferring that feeling to his opponent on Sunday.

Goods scored 23 points to power the No. 21 Cardinal past UC Santa Barbara in the finale of the Basketball Travelers Classic on Sunday.

Despite not getting the balanced scoring it had received in its first two wins - five players had finished in double digits in the first two contests - Stanford received a big game from Goods, who hit three of the Cardinal's five 3-pointers and scored 20 of his team's 35 first-half points.

The 6-3 junior guard scored 10 straight points during one first-half stretch, helping the Cardinal jump out to a 35-24 halftime advantage.

Sophomore center Robin Lopez added 12 points for the Cardinals and was the only other Stanford player who finished in double figures.

Stanford (3-0) defeated Harvard, Northwestern State and the Gauchos in this three-day round-robin tournament, all by double-digit margins. The 3-0 start is the first one for the Cardinal since 2003-04, when they opened the season 26-0 and finished with a 30-2 record.

Alex Harris, who led the Big West Conference in scoring last season, finished with 18 points for the Gauchos (2-1).
