Flynn looks to build on record performance

SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Freshman Jonny Flynn looks to build on a record-breaking debut when No. 25 Syracuse hosts Saint Joseph's in the second round of the the NIT Season Tip-off on Tuesday.

A 6-foot lightning-quick guard, Flynn scored 28 points in first collegiate game, leading Syracuse to a 97-89 victory over Siena on Monday night.

Flynn surpassed current NBA star Carmelo Anthony's school record for points in a first game by a freshman. Flynn made 6-of-7 3-pointers, went 10-of-13 overall from the field and also handed out nine assists.

Sophomore Paul Harris, Flynn's former high school teammate, added 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for the Orange, who shot 59 percent (34-of-58) and held a 42-24 rebounding advantage.

Pat Calathes scored 20 points as Saint Joseph's also used some hot shooting en route to an 86-66 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday. The Hawks shot 62 percent (33-of-53).

The winner faces either Ohio State or Columbia in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden in New York next Wednesday.
