Texas A&M looking to advance to New York in Tip-Off tournament

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) - Texas A&M is looking to punch its ticket to Madison Square Garden.

The 15th-ranked Aggies host Texas at El Paso on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the NIT Season Tip-Off tournament.

Texas A&M beat Oral Roberts, 67-53, on Tuesday in the tournament opener, being led by freshman center Deandre Jordan, junior forward Josh Carter and senior forward Joseph Jones. The trio scored 40 points, with Carter scoring 10 of his 15 points in the second half.

Coming to A&M after being rated the best high school player in Texas last season, the 7-0, 255-pound Jordan scored 11 of his 12 points in the first half.

UTEP beat Texas A&M-Corpus-Christi, 77-62, on Tuesday night. Guard Stephon Jackson led the way with 27 points in 25 minutes. The junior has scored 49 points in the first two games this season.

The winner of the game will advance to the semifinals at Madison Square Garden on November 21 against the Washington-Utah winner.
