Pittsburgh looks to extend home winning streak
Nov 15, 2007 - 3:51 PM Miss Valley St (0-1) at No. 19 Pittsburgh (3-0) 7:30 pm ESTPITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- No. 19 Pittsburgh looks to extend a 23-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents when it hosts Mississippi Valley State on Thursday.
Pittsburgh has not lost in the opening month of any season since November 25, 2001, at South Florida. With a win Thursday, the Panthers can also start 4-0 for the 10th straight season.
Pittsburgh is led by junior Sam Young, who leads the team with 19.3 points per game.
Freshman center DeJuan Blair has contributed 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, stepping in for the departed Aaron Gray - who had started for Pittsburgh the previous four years.
MVSU, which is the defending Southwest Athletic Conference champions, lost its opener to Mississippi, 97-63, on Saturday. The Delta Devils were led by senior Carl Lucas, who had 14 points.
Mississippi Valley State is 0-7 against ranked opponents since 1999, while Pittsburgh is 3-0 against teams in the SWAC all-time.
