Texas looks for complete game against UC Davis

Nov 16, 2007 - 3:36 PM UC Davis (1-1) at No. 16 Texas (1-0) 8:00 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - One game into the post-Kevin Durant era may not be enough to judge a team, but Texas would like to put up a better showing than it did in the season opener.

The No. 16 Longhorns look for a better offensive showing when they host UC Davis on Friday as part of the StubHub Legends Classic.

Durant, who averaged 25.8 points in his only college season, was the second overall draft pick in last June's NBA Draft. In the Longhorns' 58-37 win over Texas-San Antonio on Monday, they went 8-for-23 from the field and led just 22-19 at the half before shooting 55 percent in the second half.

Texas will look for more from sophomore guard D.J. Augustin, who had 19 points for Texas in the opener, and junior guard A.J. Abrams, who set a Big 12 record with 120 3-pointers last season.

The offense also could get a lift from prized 6-6 freshman Gary Johnson, who could be cleared to play after being diagnosed with an unspecified heart condition earlier in the year.

The Aggies, who are in their inaugural Division I campaign, lost 75-65 at New Mexico State on Wednesday. Junior guard Vince Oliver, the top returning scorer for UC Davis, had 17 points to lead the Aggies, who look to improve on last season's 5-23 mark.
