Arkansas looking for semifinal berth in Puerto Rico
Nov 16, 2007 - 4:04 PM No. 18 Arkansas (2-0) at Providence (1-0) 5:30 pm ESTSAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Ticker) - Arkansas tries to punch its ticket to the final of the Puerto Rico Tip-off tournament on Friday against Providence.
Arkansas, which returned all five starters from last season's team, routed both Wofford and the College of Charleston in their first two games this campaign.
However, the Razorbacks didn't get off to a good start against Charleston, committing 17 turnovers in the first half. Arkansas limited Charleston to just 28.6 percent shooting for the game however and cruised to a 75-49 win.
Sonny Weems led the Razorbacks in the second half, scoring 10 points and six rebounds in the final 20 minutes.
Providence edged Temple, 66-64, on Thursday to advance to the final four here. The Friars trailed by 10 points with six minutes left in the game, but put together a 14-0 run to secure the victory.
Dwain Williams led Providence to the win, scoring 17 points, while teammate Geoff McDermott scored 13 and grabbed seven rebounds.
