Stanford looks to slow down Siena
Nov 17, 2007 - 2:04 PM No. 20 Stanford (4-0) at Siena (1-2) 1:00 pm ESTLOUDONVILLE, New York (Ticker) -- No. 20 Stanford looks to remain unbeaten and sweep its first road trip of the season Saturday when it faces Siena, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference preseason favorite.
Stanford opened the season with three easy victories at home before being tested Thursday in a 71-60 victory at Northwestern. The Cardinal built a 16-point lead in the second half, but had to hold off a late charge by the Wildcats.
Junior guard Anthony Goods leads Stanford in scoring, averaging 16.5 points per game. Sophomore center Robin Lopez is averaging 10.3 points and junior guard Mitch Johnson has 10 points per contest.
The Cardinal lead the all-time series 2-1, including a 92-72 victory in last year's season-opener.
Siena has had little problems offensively, averaging 88.3 points per game. The Saints' current average point total equals the most in a three-game span since the 2000-01 season, when Siena scored 100, 80 and 89 against Iona, Saint Peter's and Canisius.
The Saints have struggled defensively, allowing two of their first three opponents to score more than 90 points. Siena has four players averaging in double figures - junior guard Kenny Hasbrouck (21.0), sophomore swingman Edwin Ubiles (20.7), sophomore forward Alex Franklin (14.7) and sophomore guard Ronald Moore (12.3).
The Saints have only three upperclassmen on the roster the fewest in the program's 66-year history.
