Texas A&M routs Division II Ouachita Baptist

Nov 18, 2007 - 6:20 AM COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Bryan Davis scored a career-high 15 points off the bench Saturday as 15th-ranked Texas A&M coasted to an 85-59 rout of Division II Ouachita Baptist.

Josh Carter chipped in 12 points for Texas A&M, which raced to a 41-25 halftime lead and never looked back.

"Games like this are fun because we get to play so many of the guys that work so hard in practice," Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon said. "It's good to get them out there and I know they enjoy it. We need to get more comfortable in our motion offense."

Freshman center DeAndre Jordan also enjoyed an outstanding game for the Aggies (4-0), scoring 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds.

"I'm just thankful that my teammates have enough trust in me to give me the ball," Jordan said. "It was nice to get some rebounds. It's something I have really focused on since the first game when I only had two. I need to get rebounds before I worry about scoring."

The Aggies dominated the glass against the much smaller Tigers, enjoying a 51-28 margin on the boards. Texas A&M shot 29-of-56 (52 percent) from the floor, including 8-of-20 from the arc.

"We overwhelmed them with our size difference," Davis said. "We need to work on team defense and rebounding."

Texas A&M opened its season with a convincing victory over McNeese State before posting a pair of wins over Oral Roberts and Texas-El Paso in the NIT Season Tip-off.

The Aggies will face Washington in the tourney semifinals next week at Madison Square Garden before meeting either Syracuse or Ohio State.

"We don't need to be satisfied with just going (to New York)," Davis said. "We need to work hard and take advantage of this opportunity that we have."

Daniel Maddox scored 21 points to pace Ouachita Baptist, which shot just 36 percent (22-of-61).

"We did not do a good job of capitalizing on things we can control," Tigers coach Charlie Schaef said. "There are a lot of things we can build on. I was really proud that we only had one turnover at halftime. Overall, it was not a bad first night considering the team we were playing."
