Abrams, Texas seek 3-0 start to season

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - No. 16 Texas looks to remained unbeaten when it welcomes in Division II Arkansas-Monticello in the second round of the StubHub Legends Classic on Sunday.

Last time out, A.J. Abrams scored 21 points to lead three others in double figures as Texas coasted to a 73-42 triumph over UC Davis on Friday. It was Abrams' 10th career 20-point effort.

The Longhorns have kept its first two opponents below 50 points in consecutive contests to start the season for the first time since the 1952-53 campaign.

"If we can get stops, we get a chance to run and that's when we really got it going," Longhorns coach Rick Barnes said. "I'll be disappointed if this team doesn't become a really good running team."

Texas sophomore Damion James has been solid on the glass, averaging 10.5 rebounds in the first two games. James had only reached double digit in boards just nine times entering the season.

Deron Brown recorded 13 points and six assists and Giovanni Marchetti also netted 13 for Arkansas-Monticello, which fell 81-53 at the hands of West Virginia on Friday.

Sunday's matchup marks the first meeting between both schools.
