Clark, Reynolds look to help Villanova win second straight
Nov 18, 2007 - 2:23 PM Bucknell (2-0) at No. 23 Villanova (1-0) 5:00 pm ESTVILLANOVA, Pennsylvania (Ticker) - Villanova entered its season opener wondering who would be the secondary scorer behind Scottie Reynolds. It turned out it to be Shane Clark - at least for one game.
Clark and the 23rd-ranked Wildcats aim for a second straight win when they host Bucknell on Sunday.
Villanova lost three seniors that played significant roles a season ago, and looked as if it would rely heavily on Reynolds to carry the offense.
But Reynolds, who won Big East Rookie of the Year last season, is getting help from Clark. The 6-7 junior forward scored a career-high 25 points in 86-64 victory over Stony Brook on November 9.
Meanwhile, Reynolds struggled a bit in his season debut, shooting just 5-of-11 and scoring 13 points.
Clark's production is a welcome sight for coach Jay Wright, who lost guard Mike Nardi, as well as forwards Curtis Sumpter and Will Sheridan. More help may be on the way for Reynolds, as highly touted freshman guard Corey Fisher is expected to make his collegiate debut after missing the first two games with tendinitis in his left knee.
This game marks the beginning of a rough stretch for the Wildcats, who will play four games in seven days.
As for Bucknell, it has won two straight after posting a 71-57 victory over Towson on Wednesday. Senior guard John Griffin scored a career-high 21 points and Justin Castleberry scored all 16 of his points in the second half.
