Louisville searches for win without Padgett, Palacios

Nov 23, 2007 - 4:13 PM BYU (4-0) at No. 6 Louisville (3-0) 9:00 pm EST

LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- Louisville overcame injuries to its two best post players to pick up a victory in its last game.

The sixth-ranked Cardinals will look duplicate that performance Friday when they face Brigham Young at the Las Vegas Invitational.

Despite the absence of Juan Palacios and David Padgett, the Cardinals came away with a 68-48 victory against Nevada-Las Vegas on Wednesday, ending the Rebels' 19-game home winning streak.

Palacios, who averaged 8.9 points and 5.5 rebounds last season, is expected to return from a torn ligament in his right knee in mid-December. However, the senior forward has been plagued by injuries during his career.

Padgett will be out much longer than Palacios and could miss the entire season after suffering a broken right kneecap against Jackson State on Sunday.

Padgett led Louisville with a 59.7 shooting percentage last season while contributing 9.5 points and 5.6 rebounds a game.

The Cardinals need to find some offense if they are to compete with BYU, which has won its first four games by an average of 31 points - including a 97-73 over Hartford in its last game on Tuesday.
