Top-ranked North Carolina faces Old Dominion in Las Vegas

Nov 23, 2007 - 4:35 PM Old Dominion (3-1) vs. No. 1 North Carolina (3-0) 12:00 am EST

LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- In seven tries, Old Dominion has never beaten North Carolina.

The Monarchs will be hard-pressed to change that Friday when they meet the top-ranked Tar Heels at the Las Vegas Invitational.

The last time the teams met was in the season-opening game of the 2003-04 season, Roy Williams' first game as Tar Heels' coach.

The Monarchs are coming off a 74-63 victory over Iona in their last game, as sophomore forward Gerald Lee had a career-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds.

North Carolina has scored at least 107 points in four of its five games, which includes a pair of exhibition contests. The Tar Heels are coming off a 110-64 rout of South Carolina State.

Friday's game will be the third in a four-game, seven-day stretch for North Carolina and is the first of six games away from home. The Tar Heels won't play a home game until January 9.

The winner of North Carolina-Old Dominion will face the winner of Friday's BYU-Louisville contest on Saturday.
