Xavier aims for fifth straight win, faces Belmont
Dec 1, 2007 - 3:06 PM Belmont (5-2) at No. 25 Xavier (5-1) 7:00 pm ESTCINCINNATI (Ticker) - Josh Duncan and No. 25 Xavier have a lot of weapons, but cannot overlook Belmont.
The 25th-ranked Musketeers aim for a fifth straight win when they host the Bruins on Saturday.
Xavier vaulted into the rankings for the first time in 11 months thanks to its balanced scoring attack. Sean Miller's squad has six players averaging at least nine points, and on Wednesday that depth was on display.
Showing off their impressive ability to score, the Musketeers had all five starters reach double figures in a 93-68 win over Oakland. Duncan led the way with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Drew Lavender had 12 points, six assists and a career-high seven rebounds.
Despite its offensive firepower, Xavier should be wary of Belmont. An NCAA Tournament team from a season ago, the Bruins have wins over Cincinnati and Alabama this season. Belmont is from the Atlantic Sun Conference, which is also home to Mercer and Gardner-Webb, both of whom have wins over ranked teams.
