Villanova tries to get back on track against Pennsylvania
Dec 1, 2007 - 3:12 PM Pennsylvania (2-5) at No. 21 Villanova (4-1) 7:00 pm ESTVILLANOVA, Pennsylvania (Ticker) - No. 21 Villanova looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it hosts Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Villanova is coming off a 69-68 loss to North Carolina State on Sunday. Dante Cunningham appeared to have cemented the win when he scored on a follow shot off Corey Stokes' missed layup with under three seconds to play, giving Villanova a 66-65 lead.
However, Cunningham fouled Gavin Grant on a 3-point attempt with under one second to play after the North Carolina State guard caught a full-court inbounds pass.
Grant missed the first free throw, but sank the next two to hand the Wildcats their first loss of the season.
Scottie Reynolds, Villanova's leading scorer, managed just 13 points in the loss and never found his rhythm, hitting just 4-of-12 shots from the field. The sophomore guard has averaged 16.2 points and 4.2 assists per game this season.
Pennsylvania has struggled so far, opening the season with three straight setbacks before alternating wins and losses in its last four.
The Quakers have won the Ivy League title each of the last three seasons and five times in the last six campaigns.
