Texas aims to avoid letdown vs. North Texas

Dec 5, 2007 - 2:12 PM North Texas (5-1) at No. 5 Texas (7-0) 8:00 pm EST

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - Fresh off one of the biggest wins in school history, fifth-ranked Texas will try and avoid a letdown when it hosts North Texas on Wednesday.

Texas blew a 16-point first-half lead, but Damion Jones converted a dunk with eight seconds left to help the Longhorns to a 63-61 win over then-No. 1 UCLA on Sunday.

James and D.J. Augustin each scored 16 points as the Longhorns posted their biggest road win in school history. Prior to beating the Bruins on the road, the highest ranked team Texas beat away from home was No. 4 Memphis in 2006.

It was the closest game of the season for the Longhorns, who won their first six games by an average of 15.0 points.

Things should be easier against the Mean Green. Texas has won six straight over North Texas, but has not faced it since a 75-74 win on January 19, 1981. Overall, the Longhorns have won 28 of the 33 meetings in a series that dates back to 1913.

Collin Dennis scored 21 points as the Mean Green rallied from 18-points down to post a 75-72 win over New Mexico State on Saturday.
