Washington puts long winning streak on the line

Dec 8, 2007 - 2:31 PM SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Washington will look to continue its long streak of home victories over non-conference opponents on Saturday against No. 9 Pittsburgh.

The Huskies have won 31 straight home games against non-Pac-10 Conference foes, including three victories over ranked opponents. Washington's last non-conference home loss was a 86-62 defeat to Gonzaga on December 3, 2003.

But the Huskies should receive a stern challenge for Pittsburgh, which is seeking its sixth straight 9-0 start. The Panthers have won by an average of 27.1 points and outrebounded the opposition by nearly 15 boards per game.

Junior forward Sam Young leads the Panthers in scoring (18.6 points) and rebounding (8.5). Senior forward Mike Cook is averaging 10.4 points, while freshman swingman DeJuan Blair averages 10.3 points and 8.4 rebounds.

The Huskies have lost three of their last four games, including a 96-71 setback at Oklahoma State last Saturday.

Junior forward Jon Brockman is averaging team highs in points (19.3) and rebounds (11.6). Junior guard Justin Dentmon averages 14.3 points and sophomore forward Quincy Pondexter 10.0 for Washington.
