No. 8 UCLA looks to bounce back against Davidson

Dec 8, 2007 - 2:40 PM Davidson (3-4) vs. No. 8 UCLA (7-1) 5:30 pm EST

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) - No. 8 UCLA will look to start a new winning streak on Saturday, facing Davidson in the Wooden Classic.

The Bruins are coming off their first defeat of the season, a 63-61 setback to then-No. 8 Texas. The defeat knocked UCLA from the No. 1 spot in the polls.

Four UCLA starters are averaging in double figures, led by freshman center Kevin Love at 17.3 points per game. Love is also averaging 9.9 rebounds.

Junior forward Josh Shipp is averaging 14.9 points, junior guard Darren Collison 13.0 and sophomore guard Russell Westbrook 12.5 for the Bruins. Collison made his first start of the season against Texas after spraining his left knee in an exhibition game against Azusa Pacific on November 2.

The Wildcats have dropped their last two games, including a 75-68 decision to Charlotte on Wednesday, despite 32 points from sophomore Stephen Curry. At 26.0 points per game, Curry is currently ranked second in the nation in scoring.

It will be the third game of the season against a top-10 team for Davidson, which hasn't beaten a ranked opponent since the 1973-74 season. The Wildcats have lost to North Carolina and Duke already this season.

The teams have only met once before with UCLA winning, 91-64, in the 1974-75 season.
