Carter, Texas A&M aim to rebound from first loss

Dec 8, 2007 - 3:06 PM Texas State (5-2) at No. 14 Texas A&M (7-1) 8:00 pm EST

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) -- Josh Carter and No. 14 Texas A&M will try and rebound from their first loss of the season when they meet Texas State on Saturday.

The Aggies started out 7-0 for the fourth straight season, but blew a 20-point lead to Arizona in a 78-67 loss on Sunday.

Carter, who is trying to help fill the void left by the departure of Acie Law IV, scored 17 points.

Carter has some big shoes to fill. Law, who left for the NBA, averaged 18.1 points last season and was the team's most clutch scorer. His absence has placed much of the scoring onus on Carter.

The junior swingman has responded thus far, averaging 13.5 points. Carter led the nation in 3-point percentage by hitting half of his attemp ts. This season he is connecting at 41 percent a clip, and has hit at least two 3-pointers in all but one game.

Texas A&M has won eight straight here, including 39 straight over non-conference opponents. That streak should continue against Texas State, which went 9-20 last season.

The Aggies have won 11 of the last 14 meetings, but have not played the Bobcats since a 73-71 loss in 1991.
