Temple in way of Villanova's attempt at Big 5 record
Dec 9, 2007 - 2:59 PM No. 21 Villanova (6-1) at Temple (4-4) 7:00 pm ESTPHILADELPHIA (Ticker) - Coming off an emotional win, No. 21 Villanova takes on intracity rival Temple on Sunday.
On Thursday, Villanova overcame a 21-point deficit with under nine minutes remaining in a thrilling 68-67 win over Louisiana State.
Villanova enters this contest with an impressive streak, having won 12 consecutive games against the other three schools (La Salle, St. Joseph's and Pennsylvania) in Philadelphia - known as the Big 5.
The Wildcats haven't lost a Big 5 game since dropping a 53-52 decision to Temple on December 4, 2004, at the Palestra. The current streak ties Penn's run from 1972-75 for the longest streak in Big 5 games, which dates to the 1955-56 season.
The Owls, who are celebrating their 10th season in the Liacouras Center, are looking for their 100th win in the facility.
Temple has won two straight and four of five games overall, including a 69-46 victory over Towson on Thursday.
