BYU looking to get back on track

Dec 12, 2007 - 5:10 PM Lamar (3-5) at No. 25 BYU (7-2) 9:00 pm EST

PROVO, Utah (Ticker) - Brigham Young University looks to get back on track when it hosts Lamar on Wednesday.

BYU had a two-game win streak snapped during its last game on Saturday, suffering a 68-61 setback to No. 10 Michigan State - its third game this season against an opponent ranked in the top 10.

The 25th-ranked Cougars had a 10-point lead at halftime but made 7-of-23 shots from the field in the second half and scored just twice in the first nine minutes after emerging from the locker room.

"(Michigan State) came out a lot more physical and aggressive in the second half and we seemed to play like we were in a hurry," BYU coach Dave Rose said. "What I am real pleased with is how our team battled. We had a lot of opportunities and they just slipped away. If we could have executed better we could have won this game."

BYU will be seeking revenge against Lamar after suffering a 86-77 overtime loss when the two teams met last season.

Lamar has won back-to-back games after dropping five straight following a season opening victory.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back during their last game against Louisiana College on Saturday. Lamar scored 16 unanswered points to begin the game and led by 32 at halftime en route to a 117-67 drubbing.
