Xavier, Cincinnati renew rivalry

Dec 12, 2007 - 5:14 PM Cincinnati (4-4) at No. 17 Xavier (7-1) 7:00 pm EST

CINCINNATI (Ticker) - Xavier will be after its seventh straight win on Wednesday when it hosts Cincinnati in the annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout.

Drew Lavender scored 28 points and added a career-high 10 assists as Xavier continued its winning ways with a 79-66 victory over previously unbeaten Creighton last Wednesday.

Lavender leads the Musketeers with 12.6 points and 5.6 assists per game and is one of six players averaging double figures in scoring - the team has never had six players or five starters average double digits for an entire season.

Cincinnati enters Wednesday's contest trying to snap a two-game losing streak. The Bearcats suffered a 73-54 setback to University of Alabama at Birmingham before losing by 10 to Illinois State on Saturday.

The Bearcats won last year's meeting with Xavier, which is located just 3 1/2 miles from Cincinnati, and hold a 47-27 advantage in the all-time series. However, Xavier has won three of the last five meetings and seven of the last 11 overall.
