Texas A&M looks for encore to offensive explosion

Dec 16, 2007 - 2:24 PM Ark Pine Bluff (4-5) at No. 12 Texas A&M (8-1) 2:00 pm EST

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Ticker) - Coming off its best offensive showing in 18 years, No. 12 Texas A&M aims to extend its impressive non-conference home streak when it hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.

Following their first loss of the season on December 2 to Arizona, the Aggies took out their frustration against Texas State, rolling to a 109-73 victory on December 8. It was the most points scored by Texas A&M since it scored 114 against Florida International on December 21, 1989.

The victory also was the Aggies' 40th straight at home over a non-conference opponent. Texas A&M shot 67 percent (41-for-61) against Texas State - the fourth-best shooting performance in school history - and are shooting 51.3 percent (253-for-493) from the field for the season - the ninth-best mark in college basketball.

Sunday's game will be the second of eight straight games for the Aggies at Reed Arena before they take the road on January 16 against Texas Tech.

The Golden Lions have won three straight since starting 1-5, including a 61-49 triumph at Louisiana Tech on Tuesday. Senior forward William Byrd scored 16 points for Pine Bluff, which has not had a winning season since joining the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 1997-98.

Texas A&M has met Pine Bluff just once, recording a 82-53 victory on November 24, 2003.
