Undefeated Miami hosts Stetson
Dec 17, 2007 - 10:29 PM Stetson (2-7) at No. 22 Miami Fl (9-0) 9:00 pm ESTCORAL GABLES, Florida (Ticker) -- Ranked for the first time in nearly six years, No. 22 Miami opens a three-game homestand Monday against Stetson.
The Hurricanes improved to 9-0 with a 64-58 win at Mississippi State on Thursday, their best start since starting the 2001-02 season with a 14-0 mark.
Miami is ranked in the top 25 for the first since climbing to No. 21 on March, 10, 2002.
The Hurricanes close out the calendar year with home contests against North Florida and North Carolina A&T before facing Winthrop in the Orange Bowl Classic on December 29.
Junior guard Jack McClinton is Miami's leading scorer, averaging 14.6 points per game. He scored a season-high 29 points against Mississippi State, including 11 in the final 3 1/2 minutes.
McClinton is averaging three 3-pointers per game, which tops the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Sophomore guard James Drew (11.1 ppg) and senior center Anthony King (10.1) are Miami's other double-figure scorers.
Stetson (2-7) has dropped three in a row and has not played since a 52-51 defeat to Bethune-Cookman on December 3. The Hatters have played seven of their nine games on the road, losing them all.
One of Stetson's defeats was a 71-48 loss at defending national champion Florida on November 27.
