Lofton goes for 3-point record as Tennessee hosts UNC-Asheville
Dec 19, 2007 - 2:06 PM UNC Asheville (8-2) at No. 12 Tennessee (9-1) 7:30 pm ESTKNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) - Chris Lofton will attempt to break the school record for career 3-pointers in front of the home crowd when No. 12 Tennessee hosts UNC-Asheville on Wednesday.
Lofton's 345 career 3-pointers is one behind Allan Houston's school-record 346.
The reigning Southeastern Conference Player of the Year has gone 4-of-12 from the arc in each of the past two games and is only averaging 14.4 points - down from 20.8 last season.
The Volunteers, who have the fifth-longest home winning streak in the nation at 22 games, have won four straight games overall and are scoring 88.6 points per game led by its backcourt.
JaJuan Smith is scoring 15.0 points per game to go along with Lofton and forward Tyler Smith, who is netting 13.3 points per contest.
The Bulldogs are coming off an 87-76 victory over South Carolina State on Monday to improve to 8-2 for the first time since the 1983-84 season.
UNC-Asheville has five players who average in double figures, led by Bryan Smithson, who scores 16.7 points per contest.
