Clemson begins trek in San Juan Shootout

Dec 20, 2007 - 2:02 PM PR-Mayaguez (1-9) vs. No. 15 Clemson (8-0) 3:00 pm EST

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico (Ticker) -- After a one-season hiatus, No. 15 Clemson looks to claim the 2007 edition of the San Juan Shootout, starting on Thursday when it meets Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.

Clemson won the eight-team tournament in 2005, when the Tigers defeated Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, Holy Cross and Akron on their way to the school's first eight-team tournament title in 25 years.

This season's tournament has just five schools participating, including La Salle - the only school Clemson will not play - as well as DePaul and Mississippi.

The Tigers' latest tune-up for this tournament was an 82-67 victory over East Carolina on December 5. Freshman guard Terrence Oglesby hit 6-of-7 shots from the arc and scored 22 points.

Clemson is led in scoring by junior forward K.C. Rivers, who is seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring at 15.9 points per game, while 6-7 forward Trevor Booker leads the conference with 10.5 rebounds per game.

The Tarzannes were able to cut two 15-point deficits down to four points before tiring in their 117-86 loss to La Salle on Wednesday night. Steven Ramirez finished with 16 points and eight assists for Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, which was outrebounded, 48-22.
